An Airbus A321 crashed Wednesday near the capital of Pakistan, Margalla Hills area, killing all 152 people on board.
The plane belonged to the private company Airblue and crashed in the hills of northern Pakistan’s capital. Do not know the exact cause of the accident, but in the region was fog.
“The plane is completely destroyed, pieces are scattered over a large distance. Parts of the plane still burning. Some bushes were burned.” said one journalist on the scene.
Initially, the Pakistani Interior Ministry claimed that at least five survivors were taken to hospital but later returned and local authorities announced that all persons on board lost their lives.
Among the victims are and two Americans, said a spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan, without giving further details.
Pakistani Supervisor responsible for emergency situations, Imtiaz Elah, said the accident is a tragedy. “It is a tragedy and I can confirm, with pain, that there are no survivors.” he said.
One witness was told that he was on the hills with his family when he saw the plane in the air. “The plane lost its balance and then I saw it crashing.” said Saqlain Altaf.
The Pakistani government declared a day of national mourning following the tragedy.
